Graduation Celebration
For South Asian and Chinese Canadian families, graduation isn’t a personal milestone. It’s the moment that proves a generation of sacrifice was worth it. Kia made Carnival the vehicle that shows up for that moment, calibrated across cultures and languages without losing the family code that made it matter. Two protagonists, three language versions, one cultural truth: in these households, education is the priority everything else serves.

Key Takeaway
Business Challenge
Kia needed emotional legitimacy with South Asian and Chinese Canadian families at the moment of highest cultural weight. These families don’t measure brand worth on features. They measure it on whether the brand shows up for the moments that prove the sacrifice mattered.
Cultural Insight
For South Asian and Chinese parents, education is the priority that everything else serves. Years of work and sacrifice converge into the graduation moment. When the pandemic denied kids the traditional ceremony, the family stepped in to create one. The diploma was always going to come. The recognition couldn’t be allowed to disappear with it.
Strategic Opportunity
Position Carnival as the vehicle that recognizes the family in the milestone. Not the achievement of the individual. The arrival of the household, all of it, at the moment that proves the journey was worth it.
Creative Expression — “This Is Family LUV”
We turned an automotive acronym into a cultural declaration:
LUV is the warmth you bring into every unfamiliar moment. The campaign turned an automotive acronym into a cultural declaration. LUV, the Light Utility Vehicle, became the warmth families carry into every unfamiliar moment. Graduation showed that warmth at the milestone moment told across three languages and two protagonists, with years of sacrifice converting into pride, belonging, and a future written by the next generation. The Carnival shows up where the family shows up, at the moment that proves it was all worth it.
Two Protagonists, Three Language Versions, One Discipline.
The campaign was produced as a double-shoot with two protagonists. The South Asian protagonist filmed in English. The Chinese protagonist filmed in Mandarin and Cantonese, calibrated for Mainland and Taiwanese Chinese, and Hong Kong Chinese audiences. Each version respects the cultural texture of the milestone, not just translating around it. Built per community, not adapted across them
Strategic Payoff
Carnival became more than “family-friendly.” It became family-intelligent. Fluent in the emotional language of immigrant milestones, across the cultures and languages that define them. The Bronze CMA award recognized the work; the cultural standing the work earned will outlast it.
Marketing Awards winner in multicultural strategy, creative, and media.
